Took employment with Howie & Sons Timber Merchants as a General Foreman/Manager in charge of 4 small sawmills and pit prop cutting operations, the felling and extraction of timber and employment of contractors and payment of same, also preparation and transport of all sawn and prepared timbers over a large area of the West Coast of Scotland from Ayrshire, Island of Arran to Kingairloch near Fort William. The family moved a lot in this period. Daughters Elaine was born in Struan Lodge Dunoon on the 10th January 1956, Janette in Kingairloch on the 12th November 1958 and Son Andrew born on the 20th May 1957 in Struan Lodge
